We still can’t believe it but it’s been confirmed with the La Tulipe… we’re sold out for this Friday! That means we’re expecting about 750 attenders!

We’d like to remind those who are intitled to free tickets with their Kickstarter donation that they will be able to claim them at the La Tulipe’s door this Friday starting at 7:30pm.

For all of you that did not have the chance to buy a ticket but really want to come, there might still be a way! There is a chance that some tickets will become available right before the projection. If you’re willing to take the risk, all you have to do is wait at the La Tulipe’s entrance and if by 8:15pm we have a bunch of unclaimed VIP tickets, you’ll be able to buy them!

See you Friday everyone!

One week before the premiere!

posted in: Festivals, Première | 0

Hey everyone!

We’re very excited that the premiere is already next week, it’s crazy how time flies by! You can still buy tickets in presale, but hurry up! For more details, please consult the premiere announcement we posted a couple of weeks ago. We can’t wait to see you all and finally show you our film, we can feel it’s going to be an awesome night!

The last few weeks have been a little strange. On one side, it’s back to normality with the search for contracts to fill up our dangerously low bank accounts, and on the other hand the adventure continues with the festival run.

First we’d like to mention that we finally saw our film on the big screen for the first time at the NFB last Friday with the audio mix in 5.1. It was a very enjoyable experience, and we’d like to give a big thanks to the NFB for their help with the creation of the DCP.

For those who are wondering what a DCP is exactly, it’s an acronym that stands for Digital Cinema Package. Most big festivals ask for a DCP to project the final movie if it is selected (that or on film, but that would be a lot more complicated in our case). A DCP can be contained on a portable hard drive or a USB key and is formatted so that it can be read directly by cinema projectors. Here’s what our master copy looks like!

We were also quite busy lately because we needed to send our film to the festivals whose deadlines were approaching. A lot of festivals take place during the summer with the inscriptions ending in early March so let’s just say we were short on time. Here’s a list of festivals to which we currently submitted our film:

  • ZAGREB WORLD FESTIVAL OF ANIMATED FILMS (Croatie)
  • FANTASIA (Canada)
  • FESTIVAL DE CANNES (France)
  • MONTREAL WORLD FILM FESTIVAL (Canada)
  • OLHAR DE CINEMA – CURITIBA INT’L FILM FESTIVAL (Bresil)
  • FEST ANCA (Slovakia)
  • ANNECY (France)
  • OCICORTIN FESTIVAL (Italy)
  • GOLDEN KUKER INT’L ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL (Bulgaria)
  • MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (Australia)
  • BROOKLYN FILM FESTIVAL (USA)
  • SPIKE AND MIKE’S FESTIVAL OF ANIMATION (USA)
  • SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL (Australia)
  • LONDON INT’L ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL (England)
  • LIGHTHOUSE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (USA)
  • NEW ORLEANS FILM FESTIVAL (USA)
  • BURBANK INTERNATION ANIMATION FESTIVAL (USA)
  • CHINA INT’L CARTOON AND ANIMATION FESTIVAL (China)
  • USA FILM FESTIVAL (USA)
  • FESTIVAL DE CINE HUESCA (Spain)
  • YOUNGCUTS FILM FESTIVAL (Canada)
  • ANI FILM (Czech Republic)
  • ANIMATOR FESTIVAL (Poland)
  • SIGGRAPH (Canada)

Of course we’re still only at the stage of submission so we need to wait and see if we’ll be selected. Fortunately we still have a long list of festivals to which we want to send the film so we shouldn’t have too much time on our hands to worry about that. All of this isn’t free (registration fees + DVD shipping is raising to about 600$ now), but if we can win a prize or two along the way it will have been worth it!

We wish you all a great week, and we can’t wait to see you on March 14th!

Post-production

Hey everyone!

Wow, who would have thought time would fly by so fast. It’s already been a month since we announced our film premiere!

First of all, we’re very proud to announce that the film is finally done… almost. Actually, we only have to visit Video Momentum one last time next week to do the final renders and that’s it! Here’s Birck Fulham doing the last color calibrations.

Completing the sound mix really was quite an adventure. It all started with an intense afternoon at Syllabes studio to record the great voice actors Nicolas Charbonneaux, Charles-André Gaudreau and Élisabeth Forest.

We then spent a crazy weekend with Mark Donis, our sound designer, to finalise the sound mix.

And we did the final touches at SPR studio with Jean-Pierre Bissonnette, who did the 5.1 audio mix.

A lot of work in the end, but we’re very happy with the result. We really cannot wait for you to hear it on a good sound system at the premiere!

Talking about the premiere, if you’re planning to go but still haven’t bought your ticket, hurry up! The way it’s shaping up, there won’t be that many tickets left at the door. We remind you that tickets are sold at the Cabaret La Tulipe and online on the réseau Admission (though tickets are more expensive there).

So that’s it for the latest news! Now that the film is over, we can finally concentrate on finishing all the material to give to our Kickstarter backers, like the making of, the art of and the poster.

See you soon everyone!

Film’s premiere at Cabaret La Tulipe

posted in: Première | 1

premiere_en Happy new year everyone!

As you can see, we are shaking things up and starting the new year by posting on Monday instead of Wednesday. With only a few weeks of work left on the film, we’ll probably be a little less constant than usual from now on and only post when we have important news to report… like today!

We have the pleasure to announce that Le Gouffre will be holding its official premiere on Friday March 14th at 8:30pm at the Cabaret La Tulipe (Montreal)!

The tickets are already on sale at the Cabaret La Tulipe ticket office for 7.50$. You can also get your ticket online on Réseau Admission, but extra fees will apply. For those who will want to party late with us, there will be the POP 90’s dancing night starting at 11pm (the cover is usually 5$, but it will be free for all those who have a ticket). In short, we’ve got a great evening planned ahead!

We would like to remind people who gave 25$ and more to our Kickstarter campaign that we will have a free ticket held at the door for them.

If you have any questions, please contact us at info@legouffre.com.

We hope to see you all there!

Week 100 – Thanks!

You’re probably all with your families to celebrate christmas so we won’t be taking too long, but it happens that today is also a very special day for our team. Indeed, it’s been 100 weeks that we work full time on the film!

We are very proud of this achievement, but know that it wouldn’t have been possible without all your support so thank you. Thanks to all who gave so generously to our Kickstarter campaign and without whom we wouldn’t have been able to finish the film at all. Thanks to our 700 fans on Facebook who help us spread the film to more people week after week. And finally, thanks to everyone who read us every week and have been with us since the very beginnings.

Enjoy the holidays everybody, and we hope to see you all back in 2014!
